Salvation Army of Augusta hosts race in support of new shelter

The Salvation Army of Augusta is hosting its first-ever Shamrock Shuffle 5K and Fun Run this Saturday, with all proceeds going toward the construction of a new Center of Hope shelter for families in need.

The race starts at 8:45 a.m. and runs along the canal, beginning and ending near the Salvation Army Kroc Center. Registration closes Wednesday.

Salvation Army in final fundraising stages for new Center of Hope

Formerly used by Augusta Urban Ministries, a mural-covered dilapidated building across from the Exchange Club Fairgrounds’ Hale Street gate stands on the site of what will become the Salvation Army’s new  Center of Hope.

The organization is in the home stretch of its fundraising campaign with only $1 million left of its $15.7 million goal.

Salvation Army of Augusta hosts Easter-themed campaign

Ahead of Easter next month, the Salvation Army hosted an event to benefit its campaign for the new Center of Hope. Posh Tots Children’s Boutique hosted the Hop for Hope event on Sunday afternoon, where kids got photos with the easter bunny. The new Center of Hope will be built on Hale Street at the former site of the Murray Biscuit Company, which will replace the current location on Greene Street.

Salvation Army's new Center of Hope close to breaking ground

The Salvation Army of Augusta is building a new Center of Hope and they need your help.

Wednesday, they officially launched the public phase of "Standing Together-Restoring Hope."

Salvation Army has already raised 95 percent of its more than $15 million goal. The new Center of Hope will be located on Hale Street in Augusta and will replace the current shelter on Greene Street, which has served the community for more than 50 years.
